TORTELLINI AND CREAMY TOMATO SAUCE

                                                      TORTELLINI

My son is a die hard fan of mom's tortellini and sauce.  Lucky for him we were having that for dinner last night when he dropped in. "This sauce is a little different, isn't it, mom?" He questioned.  *sigh* "Yes".   I had thinned it out a bit with 1 % milk.  Do yourself a favor.  Don't do that.  Use the evaporated milk, or if you want to be healthy, go ahead and get the fat free evaporated milk.  But don't use evaporated milk and then skim on top of that, your son will notice.  Anyway, I started buying this at Sam's a few years back and made up my own reipe for sauce.  Hope you like it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. basil
  • 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • dash pepper
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 cans tomato sauce
  • 2 cans evaporated milk
  • 1 container tortellini

Directions:

  1. Place seasonings and tomato sauce in crock pot, stir together and cook on low 2-3 hours or high 1 1/2  hours.
  2. Add evaporated milk, let cook 30 more min. on high or 1 more hour on low.
  3. After adding milk, put water on to boil tortellini (I like to go ahead and heat on medium so that it gives the water time to heat and the tortellini is done at the same time as the sauce).

     4.  When done, dish out single servings and pour desired amount of sauce over.

Add parmesan if desired. Serves 6!
